- Are you a Postgraduate student at the University of Bath?
- Do you want more than just 'a job' when you graduate?
- Do you know that on average you might expect to change jobs at least 20 times during your career?
The world of work is changing, and you need to prepare yourself for this.
On Monday 18th February Future Foundations & Y people are coming to the University of Bath to run a day of training and events which will help Bath students to gain the edge on graduation.
Whether you want to continue in research, work in the charity sector, set up your own business, work for a corporation or don't know what you want to do - these events will help you to understand yourself, how to gain a greater understanding of your options and where to go to get support.
Future Foundations will introduce you to concepts like 'informational interviews', 'building a network' and will then challenge you to test your skills by taking part in an evening event and a presentation skills 'pitching' competition.
This workshop is specifically tailored to the needs of postgraduate students. If you cannot make it there are two shorter workshops being held on the same day. Workshops B and C are for 'ALL STUDENTS', i.e. Postgraduates & Undergraduates.
- Graduate Edge Workshops (pick one to attend):
Workshop A) 9.15 to 12.05 (Postgraduates; i.e. this event)
Alternative workshop times:
Workshop B) 13.15 - 15.05 (All students; http://workshopb-allstudents.eventbrite.com/)
Workshop C) 15.15 - 17.05 (All students; http://workshopc-allstudents.eventbrite.com/)
Graduate Edge Evening Event:
At the workshops you will be challenged to put into practice what you will have learned by attending an evening event which will involve you taking part in the following exercises:
- Postgraduate Focus Group discussing the future of work
- Peer on Peer Interviews
- Meet employers and get valuable feedback on your interview technique (limited spaces which will allocated at the workshop)
- Speed Networking
If you are ambitious about gaining the edge on graduation and preparing yourself for a rapidly changing world of work then make sure you attend a workshop and the evening event.

Please note: you need to register for both a Workshop and the evening event separately.
Pitching Competition:
Throughout the day all participants in the Workshop & The Evening Event will be invited to take part in a Sell Yourself competition. This will consist of you pitching yourself to our videocamera highlighting why 'You have the edge' and 'should be hired'. The top 10 pitches of the day will go forward to compete against students from other universities to see which UK university has the edge on preparing their graduates for Graduation. The winners will also be invited to attend the Future Foundations' Sparkle Networking event at NESTA on Wednesday 27th February.
